Workshop 1 (Jennifer van den Broeke): Elderly migrants and poverty: The ‘Debt free neighbourhood program’ of the city of Amsterdam
One important aspect of superdiversity is economic inequality. Elderly migrants are overrepresented in the group of citizens that are considered as low income or poor. This has, besides other aspects, a big influence on the access to the care and healthcare services. In the workshop we discuss based on the example how the city of Amsterdam addresses this topic, how we can learn from this example.
Workshop 2 (Ute Bychowsky & Thuzar Khin Myat) – Care for Muslim Residents: “Why do good intentions often fail?”
A lot of projects begin with enthusiasm and a lot of effort that is taken by organisations and people. But very often these projects are not successful. We work together on finding out what factors help to make projects successful.
Workshop 3 (Ricarda Lehr-Rettig & Thorsten Kern) – Chances, challenges and solutions in education international nursing students
In Germany about xx% of the nursing students migrate from other countries to become nurses. This means a fundamental change in the educational system and it comes with chances as well as with challenges. What can we learn from this for our daily work in intercultural care.
Workshop 4 (Lucas Marx) – Building bridges into the system
Already before someone needs help, it is necessary to have information about the support and help that is available. But elderly migrants are not easy to reach. Based on the example of a project with elderly Ukrainian women we discuss how we can improve on that topic.
