What does ENIEC mean to you or your work?:
As a member since 2010, I appreciate the exchange of knowledge under the motto, “You can’t know everything, but you might know someone who does.” I value the support and inspiration ENIEC provides: it opens up great opportunities and leads to exciting encounters. For me, networking also means discovering new stories, projects and developments in the field of elderly care. What began as a professional exchange has, over time, also become a personal one, bringing not only insight, but also enjoyment and meaningful reunions.
More about Meltem
I’m a social scientist (M.A.) with a background in education and political science, and I’ve spent most of my career working in the field of aging, inclusion, and social participation.
I started out in Berlin, where I worked for over 10 years at the Competence Center for Intercultural Opening of Elderly Care, including several years as Deputy Head. My work focused on helping shape elderly care structures that better reflect a diverse, migration-based society, from implementing integration policies to contributing to senior policy development, especially around the needs of older migrants.
In 2013, I moved to Frankfurt to join the Frankfurter Verband. For eight years, I worked in residential care, mainly as a facility manager. I also had the chance to work across different services like day care and senior housing, which gave me a broad, hands-on perspective on what good support for older people can look like.
I returned to Berlin and since 2022, I’ve been working at the District Office of Reinickendorf as a Geriatrics Coordinator. My current focus is on improving quality of life in older age, especially where areas like participation, health promotion, prevention, geriatrics, and care all come together.
