New materials available for multilingual and culturally sensitive dementia work

Ida Mitchell & Sven Claes from the Alzheimer Society of Finland have developed materials for use by migrants and professionals working with migrant dementia patients. Finnish society too has become more and more diverse. The four largest migrant groups above the age of 65 in Finland are Russian, Estonian, English and German.
Dementia related information sheets have been developed in cooperation with migrant volunteers and are now available. In addition, concise online training material with short exercises on a culturally sensitive work approach for professionals working with migrant dementia patients has been finalized. The resources are freely available online.

  • Materials to support discussions about dementia-related topics and available support services.
  • Supports guidance for clients from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds; easy to print and use in counseling.
